Indian airlines allowed to fly to Myanmar

Myanmar as has granted fifth freedom traffic rights to the Indian airlines to pave the way for air connectivity between the two nations. “Yes, we (Indian airlines) got the fifth freedom rights, which is a major concession,” Anand Sharma, Minister for Commerce and Industry, and Textiles, Government of India, said. The fifth freedom rights allow an airline to carry revenue traffic between countries as part of services connecting the airline’s own country.

SpiceJet has already expressed interest to fly from Delhi to Dhaka, continuing on to Yangon. “SpiceJet has applied to fly on this route under the fifth freedom rights,” an official said, adding the regulatory approval is awaited for the same.
